Joan of Arc

Joan of Arc was a great hero, because she flipped the war between France and England around. This war had been going on for a century. The Reason why she was so special is not only was just a peasant girl, but she said that she was sent from god. Apperantly the English People were violent and wanted to get rid off her, so they kidnapped her and burned her to death. Joan of Arc was born on 6th January 1412 and died on the 30th of March 1431. She came from france, so that is where she grew up. She was very religous and her parents were called Jacques d'Arc and Isabelle Romée. Also she was just a great person for me and made a great influence on todays world.

Renaissance Preparation

Reflect on your experience preparing and experiencing the Renaissance Faire.

Personally I used to be an actor at a school, so it wasn't that bad. I am saying that bad because I had to study and learn my text the whole time. I thought that it was nice of the teachers to give up most of their classes. Every Evening I would sit in bed and stare at my monologue. Read through it in my Head and aloud. Practicing the Recorder was fun but kinda hard. :)

(Everybody looks so strict, but Sara and I are chatting of course :))

Achievements of Muslims

The Muslim World made several significant achievements, especially in the first centuries after its foundation, which had an important influence on mankind. Christian Philosophy rediscovered Greek through the mediation of Islamic philosophy in Medieval Spain. Through Islamic Philosophy in Spain, which put the Greek Philosophers Aristotle and Plato into the center their thought. Christian philosophers discovered Greek Philosophy. By taking over their main thoughts Christian-mainly-scholastic-philosophy-was strongly influenced by that. The Building and irrigation system. The Arabs developed great skills in construction and houses. Their irrigation systems were very beneficial for agriculture. In all these matters their great knowledge in Mathematics helped a lot. The Arabic letters and figures are still used by us today. Their Medicine and Science had also a great influence on us. Muslim doctors and scientist had clearly more advanced use of medical knowledge than the west. They already used anesthesia(makes you sleep) in surgery, the treatment of wounds etc. Avicenna was on of the most famous scientists of his time and he was a great and medical doctor. He a well known encyclopedia.

The Golden Age of Muslim Civilization

How did geography and trade contribute to the growth of the Muslim Empire, the spread of Islam
and the achievements of the Golden Age?

So the Spread of Islam happened because the Arab merchants traveled to so many parts in Asia and north Africa, and mostly also by the Mediterranean Coast. Most of these Muslims were traders, and that is also how they spread their new religious beliefs. They eventually succeeded because in the age before Muhammad   Arab people were not able to conquer the other countries. The Golden Age was from about 800 to 1100. So the Achievements of the Arab scholars not only created work space for others but they also studied history and got ideas from other cultures. This success led to more advanced mathematics, science, and literature. Arab scholars studied Greek and Indian Mathematics (hard!). The mathematician al-kharzime wrote a book about the Indian arithmetic and he also advanced algebra. Poetry was very important to the Muslim world and  so was literature. The Poets were treated very well, almost like a musician or celebrity today.

Muhammad traded Salad on the Mecca, the trading center, there was barely an attacker.
Nomads had no footpads but traveled Caravan with all of they're jewelry and cans.

St. Petka Chapel Reflections

1. Describe the Mosaic you have chosen include details about figures, colors, clothing, objects, etc.

So my Mosaic was very detailed, it was on the right side when I came in. I saw Jesus with his halo in golden, stones, his clothing was also very detailed, and there where again no shapes, and a bit of hanging feet. Jesus was differently dressed than the others as I said; he seemed to have a dress and the people/men next to him just had normal clothing, as in just regular short dresses. The priests next to him or anybody else did not have any halo's. Around the figures I saw that it was outside on some kind of market place, with a person walking in front of Jesus Christ, holding some kind of cross.

2. Does the Mosaic follow the "rules" according to the Metropolitan Museum of Art?

Well when you say "rules" I think about the Checklist we got. The placement and scale of the figures was not very clear, but you could still see it a bit. In the mosaic, you could not really see any shades, maybe in the clothing, but the lines were drawn in different colors. The thing I did not really see was a balanced composition, I  did not really see any limit. The colors they had were in almost every little detail, and bright. The background was clear, the figures were detailed with every little stone/glass piece. You could clearly see a story, it seemed that the guy in front of Jesus is leading him somewhere with the cross.

3. Is this mosaic a good example of Byzantine Art? Why/not?

In my Opinion it is a good example,  because every thing was very clear and you could really see the way the people structured it. Not only on the Mosaic I most focused on but on the other Masterpieces too.
It was very golden, especially the top of the church you could see everything golden and you could actually see that only Jesus was in color and a bit more detailed. In the End I really enjoyed this field trip, because it was not only out of school, but we have not done a field trip since two years.

Question #7 The Byzantine Empire

I think that the romans were they most advanced of the three empires. Firstly because the Romans were so advanced, they were educated, wealthy, and healthy. Secondly, because their way of trading so well, how they build their roads, with the stones. And lastly because I generally like the Romans.
